Junior Bulletin - 26th October 2010

Season 2010/11 - A Wet Start but Underway!

It has been a bit of a wet shaky start to the season but U12, 14 & 16 teams have now played at least one match of cricket and every one is keen for more. Under 10's are due to start training this week and matches will soon follow.

This season we welcome 19 new players and their families to the junior club: 7 in U10's, 3 in U12's, 6 in U14's. and 3 in U16's. A few of these players are new to competitive cricket but are quickly picking up skills and contributing to their teams efforts. It is great to see the future of POCC looking stronger through our junior players and their parents.

Thank you to all the dads that have taken on the coaching and assistant coaching roles and also a very big thank you to all the parents that have stepped into the roles of team managers and scorers. It takes everyone to make a match happen!

POCC urge all players to be familiar with our club Code of Conduct- see Junior Player Handbook at pocc.com.au. Team mangers and parents should encourage the junior players to display good sportsmanship to the opposition and umpires, stay together as a team supporting their team mates out batting.

Big Brother / Little Brother Program at POCC for 2010-11

This season our new senior coach Tim Reid is introducing a buddy system between the senior and junior players. The buddy system is aimed to combine the senior and junior clubs, introduce a mentoring system from the seniors to the junior U16 and U14 players, and assist with the transition of junior players into the senior club.

As a part of this buddy system one senior player will be teamed with three junior players, one from each age group of U16, U14 and U12. (names drawn out of the hat). Each individual player will score points throughout the season for the runs made and for fielding achievements within their own matches. These scores will be combined in the BB/LB teams.

There will be an end of season award to the BB/LB team of senior/U16/U14/U12 with the highest point score.

More than one player may be allocated to a team to even out the players in each age group.

Teams and the point scoring system will be available soon on the website.

In the mean time keep up the runs as each will be worth a point, work hard in the field as wickets, catches, stumpings, run outs will all be rewarded with 5 points or more!
